03/30/04: San Miguel import Art Long wants to correct the impression that he has a short fuse or is temperamental, saying he only plays with a lot of emotion because he’s a professional player and he loves the game so much.
A commotion occurred at halftime of the San Miguel – Sta. Lucia Realty tiff last Sunday with Long confronting Marlou Aquino at the Araneta Coliseum hallway leading to the locker rooms. The San Miguel import was summoned to appear to the Commissioner’s Office Tuesday because of the incident. But Long said his action was just misinterpreted, explaining he just wanted to talk to Aquino. But he heard a member of the Sta. Lucia coaching staff shouting at him, “f_ _ k off, f_ _ k off.”
“I didn’t attack Marlou Aquino. If I wanted to attack, nobody could really stop me,” said Long. “I just wanted to talk to him and tell him to just play the game, then came his coach shouting ‘f_ _k off, f_ _k off.”
“If I wanted to hurt him, I could’ve easily done that in the second half,” added Long.
Sta. Lucia coach Alfrancis Chua denied hurling invectives at Long, saying he only rushed to the scene when he saw the San Miguel import attacking Aquino and league chairman Buddy Encarnado.
“Wala naman ako doon. Una akong lumabas at tinawag lang ako ng mga bata namin na mayron nga raw gulo. Noong nakita ko, gumitna ako dahil boss ko na ang susugurin nya,” said Chua. “Na-frustrate siguro dahilo mga tatlong beses syinutan ni Marlou,” added Chua.
On the technical foul he incurred on the first half for pointing at the slow motion replay in the giant screen inside the venue in contesting the call by the referee, Long said he was not aware of that violation.
The three-year NBA veteran stressed he’s a professional player, and before that a professional person, that’s why he plays with a lot of emotion.
San Miguel coach Jong Uichico vouched for Long’s professionalism and said it’s not fair that his import be judged for one fight he had been involved in his PBA stint. Long drew stiff sanctions in his fight with Red Bull import Tony Lang in the 2002 Commissioner’s Cup.
“Talagang very emotional lang talaga siya, very passionate. He takes the game seriously and he plays the game the way it should be played. It’s unfair for him to be judged for one incident,” said Uichico. Despite the incident, the Beermen kept their searing run in the tourney, notching win No. 7 with a 94-84 whipping of the Realtors.

"He's so dominant and he's so big. What Long lacks in height he more than makes up for in grit and determination, battling tooth and nail for every inch of position on the low block. There is little doubt in my mind that by the end of the season Long will find himself a fan favorite, not to mention first in line for the Sonics' million dollar exception." - BSKBall.com
12/23/01: "One player that has benefited from all of the aches and bruises (of his teammates) is forward Art Long. The 6-9 Cincinnati alum is averaging 8.0 points and 7.2 rebounds in his past five games; he had a career-high 12 rebounds in a win over Orlando on Dec. 16. Long replaced Baker in the game Friday, making a free throw to give Seattle a 107-104 lead. He started in place of Baker last night, his fifth start this season.

03/01/01: "Kings backup forward Art Long didn't know how things were going to go when his 10-day contract ended. That's how it is at the opposite end of the NBA spectrum from Chris Webber. Long, though, had nothing to worry about. The Kings signed him Tuesday to another 10-day deal. At the end of this one, they'll have to decide whether to sign him for the rest of the season or release him. But for now, Long is safe. And for the record, he says he didn't punch that horse. Long has not distinguished himself yet in the NBA with his game, but the story about him punching a horse during a disturbance in a Cincinnati street while in college at the University of Cincinnati has remained a newsmaker. "I have people coming up to me in restaurants and asking me if I really punched that horse," he said. "That's how ridiculous that is." Long said he has worked hard to try to restore his image. "I think it's one of the reasons I haven't been in the NBA," he said. "That story right there. Me and (injured Golden State Warriors forward) Danny (Fortson) went out and got into it with a couple of policemen. But things got squashed, and I think there was another policeman there that thought I should have gone to jail. "I was petting a horse. I didn't punch a horse. But the story just kept getting worse and worse. At one point, I punched a horse. I kicked a horse. I hit a horse." At least Long can be thankful his story never incorporated a slant toward kissing. But there are some teammates who quietly call Long "Mongo" after the character in the movie, "Blazing Saddles," who, of course, punched a horse." - Sacramento Bee
02/26/01: Dean discovered that Art Long had signed with the Sacramento Kings and had played in two of their 4 most recent games. - Dean Richmond and Mike Ryan
02/19/01: "So with little-used swingman Nick Anderson going on the injured list Sunday with lower-back spasms for who knows how long, the Kings signed rugged, athletic forward Art Long to a 10-day contract that could last longer. Long is no stranger to the club, though he has not been around since he was the team's final cut during training camp for the 1999-2000 season. He had been playing in France with the Asvel-Villerbeanne team in the EuroLeague.
The 6-foot-9 power forward averaged 16.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in 26 minutes to help his team post a 14-0 record. Long is not a great shooter but can do exactly what the Kings need -- compete hard around the basket and, maybe more importantly, above the basket.
Long arrived in Sacramento on Saturday night and did not play Sunday. He has been in the NBA before, spending a month long stint of the 1998-99 season on the injured list with Portland. "It's an opportunity," Long said. "It's a 10-day right now. Who knows what it will be after that? To me, it's like a day-by-day thing, and every day, I've got to come in here and work." - Sacramento Bee

The jury used to be out on him. A chiseled body with supernatural strength. A true post enforcer who will patrol the paint. Just could not 'click' anywhere. Things did not get better recently. Yakima was the last CBA team (1999-00) to get rid of him and it must be for non basketball reason because he looked good on the court. Very good runner of the floor with remarkable ability to move his feet. Not much of an offensive arsenal here but some good percentage shot. Does not look in control of his nerves. Reportedly knocked down a horse (yessir) with a punch during his Cincinnati days. Everybody we talked to just shook his head when we mentioned his name. CBA All Star.
