Pat O'Brien's is a bar in the french quarter, famous for inventing the "Hurricane." It's a tourist-trap, but it's worth going just to say you went.
Other "Musts" when you're in New Orleans:
- Cafe Du Monde (French Quarter) -- Order a cafe au lait and plate of beignets. Try not to inhale the powder sugar as you eat. Bonus points if you go drunk, since it's open 24/7.
- Tropical Isle (French Quarter) -- Home of the "Hand Grenade," the strongest drink served in the Quarter. It tastes like death, with a hint of melon.
- NOLA (French Quarter) -- Emeril Lagasse's casual place, but a better overall value than his original placed or overpriced Delmonico. Go for lunch and hope that the cream of garlic soup is available that day.
- Camellia Grill (Uptown) -- Worth the streetcar ride into the Uptown area for the breakfast alone. As a bonus, you can also pay tribute to fellow undefeated-screwjob victim Tulane University on the ride down St. Charles.
- Jacques-Imo's (Uptown) -- Another gem near the riverbend. Order the fried alligator, then brag to your friends back home how it really does taste like chicken.
